1 〔体力がひどくなくなる〕 be utterly exhausted; be tired [worn] out; be dead [《口》 dog] tired; be prostrated.

●〔残業の連続で〕 彼は弱りきっている. There is no snap left in him.

・その捨て猫は食べるものもなく, すっかり弱りきっていた. The abandoned cat had nothing to eat and had lost all its energy.

・この暑さで体力が弱りきっているところに風邪を引いたから, 祖父は肺炎になってしまった. Weakened by the summer heat, Grandfather caught a cold and developed pneumonia.

2 〔閉口する〕 be nonplus(s)ed 《over…》; be much annoyed 《at…》; be stumped; be bored; 〔窮する〕 be at the end of one's tether; be at one's wit's [wits'] end; be in a fix; be all at sea.

●原料の大豆の値が上がり, 豆腐屋の彼は弱り果てていた. The owner of a tofu shop, he was sorely depressed by the rising cost of his basic ingredient, soy beans.
